1. Overview
RMVFinder (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at rmvfinder.com and the web application at app.rmvfinder.com (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
RMVFinder is an independent, third-party tool. We are not affiliated with Mass.gov, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, or any government agency.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- RMV Scheduling URL — The personal booking URL you generate through the Massachusetts RMV website. This URL contains a session token that allows our system to monitor appointment availability on your behalf.
- ZIP Code — Used to sort and display nearby RMV service centers by driving distance.
- Email Address — Collected if you opt in to email appointment notifications.
- Phone Number — Collected if you opt in to SMS appointment notifications.
- Location Preferences — The RMV service centers you select for monitoring (up to 8 locations).
- Date and Time Preferences — The date range and time window you configure for appointment monitoring.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Browser and Device Information — Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, and device type, collected when you access the Service.
- IP Address — Collected automatically when you connect to our servers.
- Usage Data — Pages visited, features used, and interactions with the Service, collected via standard server logs.
- Push Notification Tokens — If you enable browser push notifications, we store a notification token associated with your browser session to deliver appointment alerts.
- Cookies and Local Storage — We use cookies and browser local storage to maintain your session preferences and settings. See Section 5 for details.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Monitor Massachusetts RMV appointment availability based on your specified locations, dates, and times
- Deliver appointment notifications via your chosen method (browser, email, or SMS)
- Display geographically relevant RMV service centers based on your ZIP code
- Maintain and improve the reliability of the Service
- Diagnose technical issues and monitor system performance
- Respond to support requests or inquiries
We do not use your information to:
- Book or modify RMV appointments without your explicit instruction
- Sell your personal information to third parties
- Create profiles for advertising targeting purposes (at this time)
- Share your data with government agencies
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- Service Providers — We use third-party providers to help operate the Service, including email delivery services, SMS providers, and analytics platforms (currently PostHog). These providers access your data only as needed to perform services on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using it for other purposes.
- Legal Requirements — We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or government request, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
- Business Transfers — If RMVFinder is acquired, merged, or substantially transfers its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to:
- Remember your RMV URL, ZIP code, and monitoring preferences between sessions
- Maintain your notification settings
We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies. If this changes in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated and you will be notified.
You can clear cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings. Doing so will reset your saved preferences in the Service.
6. RMV Scheduling URL — Special Notice
Your RMV Scheduling URL is a session-specific link issued by the Massachusetts RMV. It is treated as sensitive data by RMVFinder. We use it solely to check appointment availability on your behalf. We do not store this URL beyond your active monitoring session unless required to maintain a pending notification.
You should treat your RMV URL like a password. Do not share it with others. If you believe your URL has been compromised, generate a new one from the Massachusetts RMV website.
7. Data Retention
- Session data (RMV URL, monitoring preferences) — Retained for the duration of your active session and cleared when you disconnect or close the application.
- Notification contact data (email, phone) — Retained until you remove it from the Service or request deletion.
- Server logs — Retained for up to 90 days for security and diagnostic purposes, then deleted.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. Use the Service at your own risk and protect your RMV URL accordingly.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Users between the ages of 16 and 17 may use the Service only with parental or guardian consent, as outlined in our Terms of Service. By using the Service, a minor's parent or guardian consents to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access — Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction — Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion — Request that we delete your personal information.
- Opt-Out of Notifications — Unsubscribe from email or SMS notifications at any time.

11. California Residents (CCPA)

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
